Role: Lead Clinical Pharmacist
Location: The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday with requirements to cover some weekends (however if you are interested in working part time, or across term time, we can discuss this opportunity with you also)

Other Info: On-call, weekend and flexibility with extended hours rota cover required

Contract Type: Permanent

We’re looking for a Lead Clinical Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy team at The Harborne Hospital. Part of the World’s largest private healthcare group; providing award winning primary, acute and complex care.

About the facility

The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare UK is a brand new £100million, purpose built 50 bed, multi-speciality private hospital. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus, the hospital will have the deep clinical infrastructure, equipment and facilities and expert, experienced teams to deliver full clinical pathways across a mix of specialties and sub-specialties at all levels of complexity including Cardiology, Cancer and Complex Surgery including robotics with the latest Da Vinci XI. The Harborne Hospital is the 4th NHS partnership within this network, partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

Job Description

  • The post-holder, together with other specialist leads, will lead clinical pharmacy services to all non-cancer areas & specialties across the Hospital.  

  • You will also oversee clinical development, education and training; ensuring continuous development of members of the Pharmacy and multidisciplinary team. You will lead quality/process improvement projects.

  • Working with the other lead clinical leads you will provide leadership for and support the technical team to ensure responsive dispensary services.  

  • Line management of Senior and Junior Pharmacy Staff and supporting the development of other pharmacy staff 

  • Lead, develop and deliver clinical pharmacy services to speciality areas, including (not exhaustively) cardiovascular, orthopaedic, spinal, digestive diseases & transplant services, including protocol development, delivery and assurance, prescription monitoring, medicines information, evidence based practice and patient counselling on use of medicines.  

  • Assist with the quality, governance, and assurance of pharmacy services.

What you’ll bring:

  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council, with a BPharm, MPharm or BSC in Pharmacy

  • Additional postgraduate clinical qualification e.g. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or other relevant post-graduation qualification

  • Extensive hospital experience (essential)

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (desirable)

  • Specialist clinical pharmacy knowledge and experience in specialties including cardiovascular, orthopaedic & spinal, digestive diseases & transplant services (essential)

  • Previous management experience (desirable)
